90+ boats, scorching hot weather and plenty of carnage ensured the 2016 event was one to remember!
All over the world, the humble little dinghy boat is the safe and simple introduction to boating for millions of people. Not in the town of Renmark, South Australia, however. There, in the otherwise sleepy town, they like to strap souped-up outboard engines to their little dinghies and race them at high speed down a 100km span of Australia's iconic Murray River.
In 2016, Red Bull Dinghy Derby recorded its biggest competitive field in its 36 year history. Sunday's race – the main event – attracted a field of over 90 boats that tackled the grueling 95km course under a beating South Australian sun.
As with all great derbies, plenty of carnage will occur in 2017. This year, who knows who’ll take out the coveted top-step on the Dinghy Derby podium.
