Film fans and sports lovers joined friends and family for the World Premiere of McConkey, the acclaimed documentary about the life, times and exploits of the extreme sports icon.

Selected as a Spotlight film at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, the movie was extended to five screenings as audiences flocked to celebrate the freestyle skiing and BASE jumping pioneer.

Attending the premiere was Shane’s wife and executive producer Sherry McConkey, Shane’s father Jim McConkey and world famous female BASE jumper Karina Hollekim.

“For someone who’s not into action sports, [this movie] is just about seeing the love, affection and passion for life,” said Hollekim. “To find something that makes you happy, something that makes you want to get up every morning and attack life with a huge smile.”

Presented by Red Bull Media House and Matchstick Productions, McConkey takes a look at the legacy of the athlete and the progression of his sports. Through his innate talent and undeniable charisma, Shane’s mission in life was to open his closed world to a much wider audience, whatever the personal cost.

“Shane would be massively appreciative of all the lengths that everyone is going to for this film,” said co-director Steve Winter. “He wouldn’t look at this and be like, ‘Of course you’re making a movie about my life’, he’d look at it and say, ‘It's really awesome that everyone is doing this for me!’”
