The Network is a climbing documentary that reveals not only incredibly difficult vertical challenges, but the lives and relationships of the people who climb them.
In episode 4, we take a look at 'developers' – the climbers who are dedicated to discovery and new challenges. Ian Dory and Dave Graham join Finnish climber Nalle Hukkataival on a trip to Australia's Grampian National Park, 235km west of Melbourne.
Dave Graham sums up the trip quite succinctly: “When I came here, I said 'This is the sickest rock I've ever seen.'”
Of course, it's not all fun. “It's a lot of work to develop bouldering routes,” he says. “Once you find the boulders, you've got to get your gear up there, your ropes, your harnesses, then assess whether the problems are doable or not. Some people take fishing trips. We build landings and brush rocks!”
While rain and weather puts a bit of a damper on the trip, Nalle completed a hard new problem.
