The steepest 400m race in the world, Red Bull 400 makes its debut in Canada on July 19 at the Whistler Olympic Park in the Callaghan Valley. Testing both speed and endurance, this race challenges runners with 400 vertical metres of gain from the bottom of the ski jump, straight to the top. With categories for full-distance, coed relay (4x100m), and a dedicated relay race for firefighter/police/EMS (4x100m), Red Bull 400 will test runners of all skill-levels. Don’t let the simplicity of the concept fool you, runners will push themselves to the limit with this punishing 400m climb up.
All runners will be tested with a qualifying race to place them in final heats. From the qualifiers, the fastest athletes will move forward to the finals for full distance, coed relay, and the firefighter/police/EMS relays. Competitors will also be joined by ultra marathon ace, Ryan Sandes, who is no stranger to harsh conditions after winning all four of the 4Deserts events.
Surrounded by breathtaking mountain ranges, and no stranger to athletic competition, Whistler Olympic Park has a history of glory and gold. In 2010, one-third of all Olympic Winter Games medals were awarded at the venue, and also Paralympic champions were crowned on the trails. Today, it remains an active centre for world-class competitors while preserving the winter legacy for the enjoyment of the local community and visitors. In addition to 130 kilometers of picturesque ski and snowshoe trails, biathlon, ski jumping, tobogganing and base-boarding are available in the winter. Summer activities include exciting recreational opportunities for adults and children, like summer biathlon and exploring the historic venue and its scenic trails.
