With Sebastian Vettel on pole for Red Bull Racing, the script was written for the German to surge ahead and win his F1 home grand prix for the first time. But a resurgent Ferrari had their own designs on the Hockenheim podium. Catch up with Seb’s blog…
‘Immediately after the start of the race, my heart almost sank into my boots, along with my engine: I was really worried that it was about to die on me.
Luckily, that didn't happen but Fernando [Alonso] was that fast that I could't hold on to him. And then Felipe [Massa] took over us both out of nowhere.
I have to say that the Ferraris have been really strong all weekend. They made a huge step and the track was perfect for their cars. But I am not worried about the championship.
In the end, it’s not only about the amount of wins, but also the numbers of second, third and fourth places. Every point counts.
That's why we are pretty satisfied with our weekend. Sure, we could have scored more points, but a third and sixth place scored us important points.
Plus it was a very special experience to be on the podium on my home grand prix in front of a truly amazing crowd.
We’ve already moved on and started focusing on the next grand prix. We will keep the positive feeling going and travel to Hungary in an even better mood.
I’d like to finish by thanking all of the fans who came to the race today and made it unique. Their support means the world to me and I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart.
Speak to you next week!'
