Continuing our look at what occurred in music in 2009, this time focusing on July to December.

JULY
Jack White forms yet another band, this time called The Dead Weather (pictured) with members including Alison Mosshart from The Kills... Adam Yauch from The Beastie Boys is diagnosed with throat cancer, delaying the release of their next album – fortunately his treatment is successful and they’ll be back in the New Year... NAS and C SICK collaborate as the film Film is released... Michael Jackson’s memorial service is televised from Los Angeles Staples Center and sees a performance from Stevie Wonder...

AUGUST
Arctic Monkeys come back with their third album Humbug and headline the UK's Reading/Leeds festivals with Kings Of Leon and Radiohead... Radiohead meanwhile release a couple of one-off singles online. Harry Patch (A Tribute) and These Are My Twisted Words... Them Crooked Vultures, a supergroup made up of Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age), Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) make their live debut... Black Eyed Peas finish a 26-week run at the top of the Billboard Singles chart with their singles I Gotta Feelin’ and Boom Pow Pow... Oasis split up after a row backstage at a show in Paris... Kraftwerk make a rare live appearance at a thankfully dry Bestival... The Red Bull Bedroom Jam stage at Underage Festival proves to be a massive hit with Don Broco, Dan Scotty, Lady Lykez, Lo-Fi Culture Scene, None the Less, I Haunt Wizzards, Dissolved In, My Passion, Saving Aimee and Blood Red Shoes all doing their best to dismantle East London... RIP Les Paul, original guitar hero.

SEPTEMBER
The Beatles release all their albums remastered, along with joining the Rock Band family... Meanwhile, over on Guitar Hero, controversy rages over the use of Kurt Cobain’s image... Nine Inch Nails split... Jay-Z breaks Elvis Presley’s record for the most number one albums by scoring his 11th with The Blueprint III... Kanye West makes a fool of himself when he storms the stage and interrupts Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV Awards... Pavement announce their reformation for a series of shows in 2010... Albums released by Muse, Pearl Jam, Dizzee Rascal, Mika, Monsters Of Folk.

OCTOBER
Morrissey cancels a series of shows after being taken ill during a show in the UK town of Swindon... Thom Yorke forms a live band to perform solo material, including Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers... Vampire Weekend return with a download – Horchata – from their forthcoming second album... Albums released by Air, Shakira, Editors.

NOVEMBER
Leona Lewis attacked during a book signing... Albums released by Biffy Clyro, Weezer, Them Crooked Vultures, Rihanna... Lilou wins Red Bull’s BC One for the second time since 2005... RIP Jerry Fuchs (drummer for LCD Soundsystem, Juan Maclean & !!!).

DECEMBER
The now-traditional dead-cert X-Factor Christmas number one 'race' is turned on its head as Rage Against The Machine's Killing In The Name tune outsells the UK TV show winner Joe McElderry’s single – a cover of Miley Cyrus’s The Climb – thanks to a concerted Facebook campaign to thwart the reality star... Albums released by Alicia Keys, 30 Seconds To Mars, Snoop Dogg, Timbaland.
