Follow the adventures of Max, HtoO, Jolly Jay and David – four friends in their mid-twenties – traveling from Berlin to Morocco, trying to reach Casablanca in 39 days to perform at a street party.
Setting off with no money, four guys from Germany and the UK must fund a road trip from Berlin to Casablanca by selling their own CDs, giving street performances, and organizing spontaneous musical events along the way.
Indulging in the youth and underground musical cultures of Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, the four characters also hope to collaborate with a diverse range of local musicians.
The idea originated as an ordinary road trip between four friends on a hot summer night in 2009. “We have the opportunity to use a huge Land Rover Defender for free, how amazing would it be to just drive for however far it takes us?!?!”
That adventurous thought intrigued all four guys, but logistically it was unlikely to happen. Apart from individual time constraints, the main set back was that such a trip could cost a lot of money and would therefore not be feasible for the group as a whole.
Will they be able to sell enough CDs to reach the concert in time? Will they be able to overcome the physical weaknesses from eating sparingly, being overworked, and sleeping in boiling hot tents?
What will they discover about themselves and the different cultures and people they come across? Hindered by language barriers, lacking money, and time pressure, they are solely reliant on each other and their determination to reach their goal in time.
At a time when the music industry is steadily in decline, 39 Days aims to show a new, possibly groundbreaking, way of marketing oneself as an artist. The four friends will promote themselves through the internet, sell their CDs independently, and sell self-designed t-shirts.
Without a manager trying to organise gigs and increase record sales, the four friends will do it all on their own. Their aim is to show that anything is possible. All it takes is the love for music, the product, and the power of will.
39 Days is an interactive journey. Are you a musician or independent artist who will be able to meet up along the way? Got some sick bars? Up for some jams? Want to be a spectator? A fellow performer or even a teacher to us boys to help us progress? We will carry as much equipment and as many instruments to share as we can!
39Days will be documented along the way. Watch the episodes as the journey progresses! Or even better – be part of it!
