During the film project 39 Days we follow Max, Hanno, Jamie and David – four friends in their mid-twenties – traveling from Berlin to Morocco, trying to reach Casablanca in order to perform at a concert. Here are the portraits of our heroes.
Max, Hanno, Jamie and David met each other at an early age while attending the Munich International School. They all have different musical backgrounds but complement each other as a team.
The amount of locations, cultures and activities will provide the film with many interesting side characters. Travelling long distances at a time will allow the four friends to stay in certain places for a while, rather than just catching a glimpse of different locations.
This will ensure that they indulge in certain places and really get to know different types of people. Apart from performing themselves, they also aim to document the different musicians and interesting people they meet on road. In this way, they aim to shed light on unnoticed talent.
Max Wentzler
Max grew up in Germany and went on to start a management trainee program for the Linde Group. He soon tired of the lack of creativity in the course and instead found a passion for music production and public relations. After a year in Stuttgart, Germany, he moved to Manchester, England, where he continued to study that particular subject.
His passion for music led to DJing; because sharing music, making people dance and laugh was more fulfilling than sitting in a studio. Being a part-time DJ he organised events at his university and started to work for Pad Communications, a Manchester based PR agency specialised in promoting musicians, DJ’s and night clubs. Max is more of an extroverted character, known for his energy, charm, optimism and interest in everything, spending as much time socialising as reading and hunting for new ideas and inspirations.
David Glover
David is a full-time student at the Munich International School. After taking a gap year to work in a local hospital and travel, he went to Budapest to study medicine. He then moved back to Germany to continue medical studies. David is known to be a very easy going person with plenty of ability in sports and music. He plays keyboard, saxophone, guitar and percussion instruments.
Generally being more of an outdoors person, David is intrigued by nature and is happy to be 'stuck' outdoors. Consequently, he also has the most experience in 'rustic living' and camping out of the group of friends. He is generally an unfussy character and with his laid-back attitude, he can take the edge off uncomfortable situations. He recently spent time backpacking through India, which he found of great value. Due to the rigours of med-school, realistically the trip can only take place in his summer holidays.
Jamie Seidl-Curtis
Jamie, a.k.a. Jolly Jay, was born and raised in London but moved to Munich at the age of nine where he graduated at the MIS. He now lives in Berlin and is flat mates with Hanno. He found a passion for film directing and writing at a young age. After graduation he took a gap year in which he travelled and attended film directing courses in Brighton (UK) and New York.
He started rapping for fun at the age of around 16 under the name JollyJay but took it more seriously after graduating. He is known for his humour and witty remarks while still having a reserved personality. He is a creative person who spends a lot of free time writing lyrics, recording/performing music or working on film ideas/editing.
Hanno Martius
Hanno or H2O, currently living in Berlin, grew up in Japan until he was nine years old at which point he moved to Munich where he met the other boys at MIS. Due to his parents constantly moving between Europe and Asia, Hanno was able to see a lot of the world from a young age. He attended an English boarding school at the age of 13 where he ended up graduating.
With a passion for filmmaking and photography he and Jamie started making films together during their vacations. Since 2005 he has attended film courses in Reading (UK) and New York, where he started rapping in 2006. Hanno is a kind, creative and more introverted character with artistic, visual and acoustic ability, and a sense of humour.
