Red Bull surfers Carissa Moore and Sally Fitzgibbons battled it out with each other in the Billabong Rio Pro today before Fitzgibbons went on to clinch overall victory…
Hawaiian surfer Moore was narrowly defeated by Australia's 21-year-old Sally Fitzgibbons in the semi-final at Barra Da Tijuca. The reigning world champion notched a still-impressive 15.36 but Fitzgibbons tallied 15.47 to put her through to the Rio Pro final.
Once through that closely fought semi, Fitzgibbons faced Moore's Hawaiian compatriot Coco Ho in the final. There she came from behind brilliantly to secure another narrow victory, defeating Ho's 14.03 with a score of 14.10. It was Fitzgibbons' second win of the season and the Australian closed the gap between her and current frontrunner Stephanie Gilmore.
Here's how things currently stand on the women's tour…
