Nate Adams gave himself the best possible chance of winning the X-Fighters showdown in London on Saturday with top spot in qualifying tonight.

But while the American is taking nothing for granted, he is focusing on his own performance a Battersea Power Station tomorrow.

“The other guys will try anything to push me off the top of the standings, but I can’t spend too much time worrying about that,” said the 25-year-old American.

His three rivals for the 2009 Red Bull X-Fighters title enjoyed mixed fortunes in and around the spectacular Battersea arena. While Mat Rebeaud qualified with no problems, Eigo Sato landed heavily and will have to get through the first round tomorrow to grab a place in the quarter-finals, with the other unseeded riders Thomas Pagès (pictured), Adam Jones and Andrè Villa, plus debutants Chris Birch and Mike Mason, as his opponents. Robbie Maddison is seeded, but with the exception of qualifying, he has been unable to practise since his recent crash at the X Games in Los Angeles.

“I will be aiming to put in clean runs like in qualifying today,” said Adams. “If I can do that tomorrow, nothing can go wrong.”

Qualifying results:

1. Nate Adams (USA)
2. Dani Torres (Spain)
3. Jeremy Stenberg (USA)
4. Mat Rebeaud (Switzerland)
5. Robbie Maddison (Australia)
6. Levi Sherwood (New Zealand)
