It’s a bumper weekend of outdoors action with high profile shenanigans all over the globe. One of the biggest and the best of these looks like being Benacassim, which takes place literally on the beach on the east coast of Spain.

So let’s have a look at whose playing at Benacassim 2010...

THE SPECIALS
No one quite expected when The Specials announced their reformation nearly two years ago, that it would have gone quite as well as it has. The Two Tone pioneers managed to win over a whole new legion of fans, as well as making their lifelong faithful giddy and misty-eyed.

PUBLIC IMAGE LIMITED
Funded by butter. No, really. John Lydon’s best outfit (controversial, but true) have been back in action over the past year due to his advertising of a certain butter brand in the UK. He’s also claiming it’s helped fund a new album. Blimey. You’re allowed to shout for as much Metal Box stuff as possible.

GORILLAZ
Having gone from shady cartoon types to a full proper live band featuring various members of The Clash and Senseless Things and with a rotating door policy applied to their guest acts (their Glastonbury show had Mark E Smith, Lou Reed and Snoop), Gorillaz have become one of the big draws of the festival circuit this year.

KLAXONS
Crikey. Remember them? Three nu-rave herberts? Won the Mercury prize? No? Well you should. Klaxons are back properly and release a second album in August. Produced by Ross Robinson, it has a more rockier element. Get in.

LEFTFIELD
Speaking of ‘remember them?’, Leftfield have been back on the festival circuit this year with a vengeance after a spell of not existing. The duo had a habit of testing the limits of most venues, and actually dislodged concrete at Brixton Academy. I mean, that’s what you want really? Okay maybe no fun if you’re under it.

LILY ALLEN
This is possibly Lily’s last show before her retirement. Perhaps she isn’t retiring at all. Perhaps she was just jealous of the press coverage that Cheryl Cole was getting for managing to breathe, and so thought “I’m off!”. It would be a shame really, as pop would be a shoddier environment without her.
