Benjamin Karl followed up his silver medal in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics with another second place in the parallel slalom snowboard event in Moscow on Saturday.
Karl was unlucky to make a mistake in the final in Russia to allow Aaron March to take a first win of the season, though Karl, whose 800 points for this podium finish mean he still leads the current FIS Snowboarding World Cup standings with 5,600 points, sounded a positive note afterwards.
“I must be jinxed! Just like at the Olympics, I do my only mistake in the final,” the Austrian star commented. “But, well – then I will win the next races.”
“It was pretty hard for me in the beginning, but I got into it better and better with every run I did,” said Italy’s March after his defeat of Karl. “I’m pretty surprised that I was able to win.”
The alpine snowboard season continues on March 13, in Valmalenco, Italy.
