Earlier this week, in an interview with an Atlanta radio station, Brian Vickers raised the possibility of racing for someone else other than Red Bull in 2012. He also added that he loves racing for the Red Bull team and that he and the brand are a good fit. But that still doesn't mean there aren't little things that get under a driver’s skin...
I would love to run some Nationwide races but, as of right now, Red Bull have told me I can’t. But, just like my team-mate, Kasey [Kahne], I would love to run some. I have no idea as to the reason why Red Bull don't want me to do it, but it’s a good question – I don’t know if it has something to do with my coming back last year – I don’t really have an explanation as to why.
If it was about focus, for example, and they wanted me to just keep focused on the Cup Series, then I would think that they wouldn’t want Kasey to run it either, but for some reason they are letting him do it.
The change in having to declare which series a driver will earn points doesn’t really affect me because I never ran a full Nationwide season anyway. It’s about racing. I love to race and I love to be in a race car. It’s fun and you get seat time on the race track prior to the Cup cars and I mean the cars are similar now to how they used to be a long time ago. It’s almost like getting an extra practice session, so why not?
I mean if, at a Grand Prix, they had almost the same car racing on the same weekend on the same track on the same tyres as the Formula One cars and the drivers were allowed to go run it, I am certain they would.
