England fast-bowler Stuart Broad has been named in England’s squad to face Australia in the eagerly-anticipated Ashes series starting in November.
Nottinghamshire’s Broad has come on in leaps and bounds in recent times, making short work of many batsmen in the latest series against Pakistan, which ended yesterday with a 3–2 ODI series win for England. Broad at one point had hat-trick ball after taking the wickets of the Pakistani batsmen Mohammed Hafeez and Asad Shafiq in consecutive balls. He finished the match, which England won easily by 121 runs, with bowling figures of 3–25.
With controversy surrounding the Pakistan-in-England tour for all the wrong reasons, England will undoubtedly be looking forward to taking on their fiercest rivals in the world’s biggest Test cricket series. England hold the bragging rights (and the tiny Ashes urn) after a 2-1 series win in England against the odds back in 2009.
England legend Andrew Flintoff will definitely be out of the picture, having retired from all forms of the game last week through injury, but batsman Kevin Pietersen returns to the fold and so does the fans’ favourite Monty Panesar, chosen as second spinner in the England attack.
The five-match Ashes series begins in Brisbane, Australia, on November 25.
