Toro Rosso driver, Sebastien Buemi is happy the team is going its own way this year in Formula One.

“I’m really feeling the buzz here for the first race,” said Sebastien Buemi when he met the media in the Sakhir paddock this afternoon. “It’s so exciting with new teams, new drivers and new rules. It’s great to be racing again, especially as I think we are well prepared after testing, with a reliable car. Now we need to see how quick we are compared to the others and that won’t happen until Friday or Saturday. But it’s close, very close. I’d say there are four teams out in front, then a big midfield, which is where I think we are and finally the others and the new teams.”

Asked about the fact that this year, Scuderia Toro Rosso has to be totally independent of its sister team, Red Bull Racing, in terms of design and car build, our Swiss speedster felt this was a plus. “Of course, it means a lot more work,” he admitted. “But it also means we can do things our own way at our own pace. We no longer have to wait for parts to come through the system from another team, before adapting it to suit our needs, which was the case last year.” So what can we expect from Buemi in his second season in F1? “I know everyone is talking about mine and the team’s expectations must be higher now I have some experience, but I pay no attention to that. I’m just focussed on doing my job, but the results will really depend on how good the car is.”
