The FIM Motocross World Championship heads to St. Jean d’Angely, France this weekend for round seven of the series with Tony Cairoli and Marvin Musquin leading the way in their respective classes.
After six race wins so far this season, Cairoli finds himself 41 points ahead in the MX1 overall standings from second placed Max Nagl, while Marvin Musquin heads to his home GP with a similar lead in MX2.
After a win and a second at the United States GP in Glen Helen, Cairoli built on his MX1 lead, while Nagl endured a weekend to forget with a DNF, but the German won the French GP last year at Ernee so he will be looking for the same again in his pursuit of Cairoli.
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Musquin is looking for his fourth consecutive race win in MX2, after a success in Spain and a double in the US and the omens look good for the Frenchman too, as he dominated in 2009 in Ernee by winning both races.
Musquin’s closest challenger in the MX2 standings is Ken Roczen, who has just the one race this season, but a series of solid podiums have seen him open up a 23 point advantage over third placed Steven Frossard, with 15-year-old Jeffrey Herlings in fourth.
Herlings dropped out of the top three after a bad weekend in the USA, but the young Dutchman is certain to be in the shake-up for a podium spot on Sunday.
