MTB Freerider Andreu Lacondeguy heads home to Barcelona, Spain to take part in Red Bull Backflip Evolution this week. Find out some Cold Hard Facts about the event and its Spanish star…
Barcelona...
Andreu is going back to where it all began for Red Bull Backflip Evolution, as the event takes place in Laconland – Andreu’s own Bikepark – in his hometown. The Spaniard was born in Llinás del Vallés on January 12, 1989, and began riding when he was just seven-years-old. He no longer lives in Spain though, having moved to California, USA with his brother Lluis.
Double
backflip...
The move that won him Whistler’s Crankworx and made him the unofficial Freeride world champion in 2008. Andreu was only the third man ever to land a double backflip successfully in competition. He had already made history that year by becoming the first mountain bike rider ever to land a backflip on a snow big air ramp in January, 2008.
Shopping
trolley...
Andreu says he can perform a backflip on any two or four-wheeled machine with no engine, be it a BMX, a mountain bike or even a shopping trolley!
BMX...
Andreu puts a lot of his success down to the fact that he raced BMXs before he got into downhill racing. According to the Spaniard, this helped as it teaches you to peddle and jump at the same time, which is crucial when trying to pull off a double backflip.
X-Fighters...
The Catalonian isn’t content with simply breaking boundaries in MTB Freeride. He’s got his eyes set firmly on a place on the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour. “I am riding FMX and I am doing ok. My goal is to try and learn a lot this winter and to make it to the X-Fighters someday,” he says.
Scarface...
Away from the dirt, Andreu enjoys nothing more than watching his favourite movie.
