Czech skiers dominated the Red Bull Nordix which took place in Davos, Switzerland.

Big names such as Petter Northug and Martin Koukal did battle on the slopes in an event modelled on the Olympic sport of ski-cross.

Featuring a series of jumps and a short, steep climb, the course was a major test, but it was Czech Dan Maka who proved the best equipped for the challenge.

Maka beat compatriot and national team member Koukal to first place, with Davos local Gaudenz Flury’s third-placed finish giving the home crowd plenty to cheer.

Cheer was in pretty short supply for Northug, who finished sixth after taking a big fall on one of the jumps.

Northug lay prone in the snow for several minutes after the crash before returning to complete the course, a cut on his face and a black eye to show for his efforts.

On the women’s side, it was the Swiss who came out on top. Seraina Gasparin taking victory ahead of her compatriot, Lucy Pichard, and Norway's Guri Hetland.
