Mattias Ekström finished fourth as Gary Paffett won the sixth round of the DTM championship in Zandvoort, Netherlands.
The Swede started the race from fifth on the grid, and although he managed to make up one place he couldn’t catch team-mate Timo Scheider for a place on the podium. And, he ended the race under investigation for team orders after he passed Miguel Molina after their second set of stops.
In front of Ekström, Paffett enjoyed a lights-to-flag victory, leading home team-mate Paul di Resta by just 0.396 seconds. The win puts the Briton just nine points behind Bruno Spengler in the drivers’ standings.
“This track really suits me,” he said. “Here, you have to put plenty of pressure on, you can get a lot out of the car. This track is really extreme, but for me, it is really fun to drive on. Today, Bruno didn’t have such a good race. I am ready for the title.”
Reigning DTM champion Scheider finished over 12 seconds behind Paffett to finish in third and complete the podium. Elsewhere, Martin Tomczyk claimed a championship point as he came eighth while David Coulthard had to settle for 12th.
