After three races a long way from home and another on the Asian side of Istanbul, the F1 circus finally arrived in Europe this weekend, with the start of practice for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.
The circuit is very familiar to everyone, as it’s a popular winter testing venue and it is hard to believe that F1 has now been coming here for 21 years, or in other words since Jaime Alguersuari was about one year old! Our local driver did not have the best of mornings as he pitted after completing just nine laps. There was some doubt about the engine on his car and as a precaution, it was decided to change it. This work will be completed in time for him to go out for the second session this afternoon. He was credited with the 18th fastest time, while Daniel Ricciardo, standing in for Sébastien Buemi this morning, was twelfth in a time of 1.27.471, completing 23 laps. The Red Bull Racing duo were, as expected, quickest, with Mark Webber heading series leader Sebastian Vettel. Nico Rosberg was third for Mercedes.
