Rene Feuerstein held off a spirited challenge to successfully defend his Snowkayak World Championship in Lienz, Austria.
More than 3,000 people turned up to watch the best 100 riders from 10 countries battle it out as the event returned from a year in Obertauern.
And, in a nail-biting final, the Austrian favourite kept his composure to edge out local rival Manfred Lobenwein. While, compatriot Stefan Ortner came in third, ahead of German Schöllkopf Lukas.
'It was really hard to defend my title against the strong competitors' – Rene Feuerstein
Earlier, the final had been held up as the 400m course was shortened due to safety concerns with the first of two swimming pool obstacles.
Champion Feuerstein was clearly delighted to get the win, and paid tribute to the tough competition.
“The track was really challenging this year, it was really hard to defend my title against the strong competitors,” he said.
“It was a great event with a great atmosphere and I’m still proud to wear the title Snowkayak world champion.”
The women’s event was won by the Czech Republic’s Lucya Prochazkova, ahead of Austrian Eva Seidel and fellow countrywoman Lenka Sindelarova.
