Ashley Fiolek and Tarah Gieger kicked off the 2010 Women's Motocross Championship with second- and third-place podium finishes, respectively.
The MotorcycleUSA.com Women’s Motocross Championship began its 2010 campaign on Saturday, with plenty of action going down at The Hangtown Motocross Classic in Sacramento, California.
Sporting the bold number one plate on her Honda Red Bull Racing CRF250R, defending series champ Ashley Fiolek finished the day in second overall with 3-2 moto finishes.
A crash in moto 1 threw a slight damper on Fiolek’s plans to kick off the series with a win, but she was satisfied to escape the opener with second-place points.
Behind Ashley in the overall standings for the day, TLD/Red Bull/Honda’s Tarah Gieger took a very impressive second-place finish in moto 1, but slipped to sixth in moto 2 after a poor start, ending her opening round campaign with a third overall.
After spending much of last season on the sidelines due to injury, Gieger was pleased to get out of Hangtown healthy and with some solid championship points under her belt.
The pair now eagerly await round number two at the Freestone National in Wortham, Texas, USA on June 5.
