Those magnificent men in their flying machines will be soaring over the skies of Manhattan as the Red Bull Air Race makes its first appearance in New York this year.
Some of the world’s greatest pilots, including world champion Paul Bonhomme, Hannes Arch and Kirby Chambliss will take to the air over the Hudson River on June 19 and 20.
New York will be the fifth race of the series and is the latest to be announced as the nine-race championship calendar takes shape. Also confirmed are races in Abu Dhabi in the UAE, Perth, Australia, Lisbon, Portugal and Budapest in Hungary.
“Jersey City is fast becoming a premier destination to host major events,” said Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy. “The Red Bull Air Race is a high-calibre event that provides international exposure and will bring millions of tourism dollars into our city.
“We are thrilled to have the world’s most talented pilots compete above our Hudson River waterfront.”
