The opening day of the Bonver Grand Prix of Czech Republic was marred by rain, meaning the qualifying procedure had to be changed from the usual qualifying race to a timed practice session.
In the treacherously slippery conditions it was Clement Desalle (MX1) and Steven Frossard (MX2) that emerged as fastest and both will start from pole. Desalle recorded a very strong time to to top the sheets ahead of Tanel Leo and Kevin Strijbos, who again fared well following his pole position at Bellpuig earlier this year. Ken De Dycker and Steve Ramon completed the top five, all ahead of series leader and champion Tony Cairoli. This is now Desalle's fourth pole of the season, overtaking Cairoli as the rider with the most. The Belgian's first GP win came last year at Loket, and he'll be aiming for a similar success in an attempt to cut the gap from the runaway series leader. Max Nagl was unable to make the top ten, and came in 12th on the day.
In MX2 Frossard's finish was ahead of fellow countryman Marvin Musquin and Jeremy Van Horebeek, Zach Osborne and Jeffrey Herlings completed the top five. Frenchman Musquin, took second after he lapped two tenths slower than Frossard. The Championship leader marked his comeback to the podium in Lommel last weekend, marking his seventh GP victory of the year.
