Mark Webber took a dominant second career win at the Brazilian Grand Prix and paid tribute to his Red Bull Racing team after they secured second in the constructors’ championship on a day when Jenson Button was crowned world champion.

With Sebastian Vettel fourth and pole-winner Rubens Barrichello slumping to eighth, Button’s fifth place in the race was good enough to secure the title for the Briton and grab the constructors’ title for Brawn GP into the bargain.

Webber, though, was full of nothing but praise for his own team who have so far scored six podiums this season, including two wins with Webber and seven further podiums for Vettel, of which three were victories.

“It’s a fantastic day for the team to win again, confirming second in the constructors’ [championship] for us,” said Webber of his Interlagos victory, “It wasn't good enough to win the championship, but we've done ourselves proud.

“I want to thank Renault because the engines were very good, and it wasn't an easy environment for them.”

Webber also took time out to laud newly-crowned champion Button, saying that the Brawn GP driver fully deserved his title. “Jenson, I think, deserves the championship,” Webber said. “He drove very well in the early part of the season. It wasn't easy to have error-free weekends. He's driven very well. Brawn had some strengths and weaknesses, but JB did a good job, so I want to congratulate him.”

'If neither of our drivers could win it then I’m delighted for Jenson'
– Christian Horner

Webber, who finished ahead of BMW’s Robert Kubica and McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton, admitted that, despite a nervy first stint, he had the race firmly under control in the closing stages.

“You never know in the first stint,” he said. “We knew Rubens was a bit shorter[-fuelled] and Robert was a bit shorter, and when they pitted I knew I had a good gap for the second stint. I just cleared JB in the second stint, which was good.

“After that, I was quite comfortable, but I was a bit panicky with Robert closing in on me in the second stint. The guys said he was a bit shorter, but I was asking a few questions!”

After congratulating Webber on his win, Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner also singled out Button for praise. “Congratulations to Jenson,” he said. “We pushed him as hard as we could. If neither of our drivers could win it, then I’m delighted for him [to win].”
