The female surfing season may be enjoying a mid-season break, but there’s no rest for Red Bull’s riders as Maya Gabeira, Sofia Mulanovich and co head to Lima, Peru this weekend for Red Bull Surfing: Girls Only.
An assortment of the world’s best women surfers – including Sally Fitzgibbons, Carissa Moore, Mulanovich and Gabeira – have made the trip to South America for the mid-season high performance camp. The aim of the camp is to keep the riders sharp as they prepare for the second half of the ASP Women’s World Tour, which begins in Lima on June 5.
Peru offers the perfect location to train on the different wave types served up by over 1,400 miles of coastline, where the surf breaks all year round. The surfers will train both technical and tactical skills while at the camp.
For 2004 world champion Mulanovich, the camp represents a homecoming and a chance to meet up with friends and fans. She is also looking forward to getting out into the Peruvian waves, which she believes have their “own magic.”
