Mick Fanning leads a stellar cast as the world’s best surfers head to Australia's Gold Coast to kick off the 2010 ASP Men's and Women's World Tours in the best style possible.

The ASP World Tour begins next weekend and the iconic setting of Snapper Rocks is the venue for the Quiksilver Pro and the Roxy Pro as the great and the good bring their boards and their skills to wow the crowds.

It's a familiar stage for more than one reason for Queensland native Fanning, a nominee for the Action Sportsperson of the Year in the Laureus World Sport Awards.

The 2009 ASP winner and two-time world champion has just returned from Red Bull Project Air.

The intensive training which included a day’s surfing at Snapper Rocks was the ideal preparation for Fanning and fellow competitors Jordy Smith, Julian Wilson and Michel Bourez.

The occasion marks a return after more than a year out for Wilson and Andy Irons is also back in action after a lengthy spell out.

Sofia Mulanovich and Sally Fitzgibbons, meanwhile, are in similarly good stead ahead of the women's event as they bid to topple champion Stephanie Gilmore who was victorious in last year's Roxy Pro.

The action gets underway on February 27 and carries on all the way through until March 10. You can follow the Quiksilver Twitter feed and connect over Facebook.
