Alison Goldfrapp Serge Leblon

Amongst this week's album releases are new material from the likes of Goldfrapp, Mary J Blige and Laura Marling.

Album of the week this week is the fifth release from Goldfrapp . Entitled Head First, it sees the duo back in a more glam-pop vibe after the folksome previous release Seventh Tree. Including the single Rocket, it’s chock-full of arms-aloft singalong anthems, and should go down a storm when they play it live. Watch the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJppnG1tflU.

Mary J Blige releases her new album Stronger With Each Tear this week. It includes the single I Am and not just one, but two covers of Led Zeppelin songs such as Whole Lotta Love and Stairway To Heaven. Perhaps she’s trying to drop subtle hints to Jimmy Page, seeing as Robert Plant is disinterested. Anyway, go feel the soul at www.mjblige.com

Laura Marling releases her second album I Speak Because I Can. The follow up to the highly acclaimed Alas I Cannot Swim, it’s another stunner of folky marvellousness. She then heads out on a European tour, before getting her wellies handy for the festivals www.lauramarling.com

Autechre release their tenth album Oversteps this week on Warp, and it's quite literally a thing of beauty. Head to their official site to obtain special versions of it and listen to their streaming radio. The duo will be touring Europe over the next two months, before again, hitting the festivals www.autechre.ws

Also, Wooden Shjips release Vol.2 - a compilation of singles and bits and bobs this week, ahead of some supporting duty with Pavement in May, check them out at www.woodenshjips.com. Galaxie 500 reissue their seminal three albums this week, released at the end of the eighties, Today, On Fire and This Is Our Music have been out of print for years due to record company collapses and the band themselves had the buy the rights back from a liquidation sale. There's no official site, but head to www.dominorecordco.com/artists/galaxie-500/ for a glimpse of such magic.

Trackwise, well, our favourite ex-foul mouthed rapper turned actor/soul boy Plan B releases the second single from his upcoming The Defamation Of Strickland Banks. Entitled She Said, the video thematically follows on from previous single Stay Too Long. www.time4planb.co.uk Shall we have a gander?
