Pro BMX rider Senad Grosic is currently touring Saudi Arabia as part of the Red Bull BMX Park Tour. Read his blog, and learn about Arabian driving and why he had to build his own show ramps...
Hi guys!
We finally made it to Jeddah despite all the delays caused by the volcanic ash cloud. After all the waiting around I really needed to get some sleep, and then get fit for the upcoming shows over here.
I wasn't just hanging around though. I drove to the event spot (a mall) to check the set-up of the ramps and let me tell you, I'm glad I did. The ramps just had a new coat of paint and weren't even screwed together. Why? Well, the ten guys who were in charge didn't really like the idea of working at a temperature of 39 degrees. So me and two other guys from Red Bull took over and did a pretty good job.
After two car rides from hell – on the streets of Saudi Arabia there's only one law: the bigger car is always right – I just had enough time to get a shower before I was off again to meet with the press.
From there I went straight to my first show in front of 3,000 people – it seems like malls are the latest hit over here in Saudi Arabia. It was amazing, the crowd was thrilled and went totally crazy. I carried on and did another show with an equally great vibe. But this time there was even a moderator.
So, that was my first day - it's already 11.45pm. There’s no time to rest though, I’ve got to be up at 5.40am to catch the morning sun in Mekka. That's something I’ve always wanted to see.
Speak to you soon,
Senad
