Hectic final hour

2011 Monaco Grand Prix

Jaime Alguersuari and Sébastien Buemi completed 13 and 14 laps respectively in the final hour of free practice this morning on their way to finishing eighth and ninth fastest.

A good morning’s work therefore, but not all that representative of true performance, given that not all drivers used new Supersoft tyres.
After yesterday’s day off from track action, there was a rude awakening this morning in terms of how treacherous this street track can be: Nico Rosberg had a huge crash, when the backend of his Mercedes appeared to snap out of line on the very fast exit to the tunnel, eventually coming to rest after the chicane. Fortunately the German was unhurt, which was also the case for Tonio Liuzzi after he too whacked the barriers in the Hispania. Both incidents interrupted the session as red flags were needed while the debris was cleared away. Fernando Alonso was fastest for Ferrari, with his team-mate Felipe Massa third, while Jenson Button in the McLaren split the two red cars in second place.
