Jeffrey Herlings is enjoying a successful start to life in MX2, following up sixth in Bulgaria with second in Montova, Italy over the weekend. We caught up with him before that race to talk about his goals for the season, leisure time, and of course, Ken Roczen…
Hello Jeffrey and welcome to Montova.
Hello.
So, what is your main goal for the season?
I hope to stay fit and be there [racing] every week, not get injured, and hopefully finish top–8 at the end of the season.
Only top–8…
Maybe a little better, but we’ll see.
How was your preparation over the winter?
Not so good. I had an injury, so I was off the bike for five weeks. I couldn’t ride that much or do much fitness, but now we’re getting back in shape and starting to get fit and I’m just hoping to do well in the rest of the races.
What did you do when you were off the bike – have you had some leisure time?
I was lazy like a piece of wood! I didn’t do that much, but after I got back from injury I did a lot of training and now we’re getting really fit so that’s good.
So, what about you and Ken Roczen fighting during the off-season?
I hope to beat him, soon, but, he’s still faster than me and I have to admit that. I’m working on it though, so I hope to beat him soon. [laughs]
What’s your plan to beat him?
Train even harder, I have to train hard.
Compared with you, what do you think are his strengths?
I would say he has more experience than me. This is his second GP season and it’s just my second GP at all. So, he’s got more experience and he’s just faster at the moment, but we’re working to change that and we’re putting in a lot of hard work. Hopefully I’ll beat him as soon as possible, maybe not this weekend, maybe not in three months but one day. We’re getting there.
Thanks for your time Jeffrey.
Thank you.
