The countdown is on! The Red Bulls Salute invitational tournament in Salzburg hosts the European elite of ice hockey. Here are some important facts about the teams involved...

null HC Sparta Prague
This will be the third time that HC Sparta Prague have participated in the Red Bulls Salute. The team from the Czech Republic come to Salzburg as defending champions and have a good chance of winning again. One reason for this is that the team are able to rely on a few outstanding individuals like David Vyborny (former NHL player for the Columbus Blue Jackets) and Martin Rucinsky (16-year veteran of the NHL).

null ZSKA Moscow
CSKA Moscow are one of Russia's most renowned clubs, with 32 national championship titles. Last season, the team reached the quarter-final of the KHL (Kontinental Hockey League), only to be defeated by fierce local rivals Dynamo Moscow.

null Espoo Blues
This will be the first Red Bulls Salute appearance of the Espoo Blues from Finland. The team had a brilliant 2009 season, with two semi-finals in the national SM-Liiga and in the CHL (Champions Hockey League), where they were knocked out by the ZSC Lions. At Red Bulls Salute, they get a chance for revenge…

null Adler Mannheim
Adler Mannheim are record champions in the DEL (German Hockey League), with five titles since the foundation of the league in 1994. The team includes former Salzburg defender Mario Scalzo, who moved in summer 2009.

null ZSC Lions
The ZSC Lions are the current title-holders in the Champions Hockey League (CHL), beating Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the finals. Last year, the club from Switzerland lost the final of the Red Bulls Salute against Sparta Prague.

null EC Red Bull Salzburg
In 2008-09, EC Red Bull Salzburg have been dethroned by rivals KAC in the EBEL (Erste Bank Austrian Hockey League). By far the youngest team in the league will be looking forward to this season with renewed hope. New stars like Seven Regier (formerly of St Louis Blues) and Jonathan Filewich (Peoria Rivermen) should help the team improve.
