Pedrosa and Devizioso Le Mans 2010 Repsol Media

Dani Pedrosa sealed his first win of 2010 with a dominant performance at the Gran Premio d’Italia, while team-mate Andrea Dovizioso finished third.

Starting on pole, the Spaniard led the race from start to finish and never looked in danger of relinquishing that lead. The win takes Pedrosa above Valentino Rossi – who missed the race through injury – into second in the overall championship.

'I started well and then looked after my lead. I'm very happy to have won' – Pedrosa

Prior to the race in Mugello Pedrosa had only converted 3 of his 14 premier class poles into wins but after a good start he took control in Italy and by the midway point of the race held a 7.309s lead over Jorge Lorenzo and Dovizioso. The Spaniard eventually took the chequered flag 4.014s in front.

"It would certainly have been a very different race with Valentino Rossi here," Pedrosa said. "I started well and then looked after my lead. I'm very happy to have won."

Behind Pedrosa, team-mate Dovizioso was locked in a close battle for second with Lorenzo. The Italian made an impressive start from the second row and by the end of the first lap found himself in third.

Despite getting passed Lorenzo at one stage, Dovizioso was unable to keep the Yamaha rider at bay and had to settle for third and a place on the podium.

Mika Kallio’s miserable weekend continued as he was forced to retire from the race. The Finn had struggled with a shoulder injury and crashed out after 15 laps.
