Reigning AMA/FIM Supercross champion James Stewart is hoping he will be back riding soon after undergoing surgery on his wrist.
The 24-year-old from Florida picked up the problem after getting caught up in a crash with arch-rival Chad Reed in the second race of the year at Phoenix.
'My plan is to be back out there just as soon as I can ride without pain' - James Stewart
He tried to race on but the pain became too much to bear and an MRI scan showed a broken scaphoid bone in his right hand.
Stewart, who missed most of the 2008 season with a knee injury, wrote on his blog: “My wrist is already feeling a lot better.
“Right now I’m following my doctor’s orders so I can get back on the track racing as soon as possible. My plan is to be back out there just as soon as I can ride without pain.
“It was no fun racing Phoenix and Anaheim 2 this way! There’s not an exact date yet for when I can get back on the bike, but if progress continues as is, I hope to be back very soon.”
Stewart, who began the year in style by winning the first race of the campaign, has now missed back-to-back races in San Francisco and San Diego, won by Ryan Villopoto and Davi Milsaps respectively.
Ryan Dungey still leads the way at the top of the overall standings - he is four points clear of Josh Hill while Stewart is in tenth place.
