Ever since the three-year-old Johnny Aubert got his hands on his first motorbike all he has wanted to do is ride, ride fast! Little Johnny has come a long way since his Italjet 50cc bike and his contract with KTM has allowed him to race the best machines on the market.

This maybe Johnny’s debut year at the Dakar but will be a familiar face to many bikers in the bivouac. Johnny is a two-time World Euduro Championship winner and has a host of other off-road titles to his name.

At the start-line in Mar del Plata Johnny will realise a dream he has had since he first watched the Dakar as a kid with his grandfather. To get him up to speed for the desert classic Johnny has been training alongside three-time Dakar winner Marc Coma.

Fast Fact: Success came very early in Johnny’s career and he admits to becoming France’s L'enfant terrible while he was waiting to graduate to senior races. Now Johnny has his own kids so no longer has the time for any of his own childish behaviour.

Line in the sand: “I’m so excited to finally have the chance to participate in the Dakar. Ever since I signed with KTM riding the Dakar is only thing that has been on my mind. The more I hear about how difficult the race is, the more I want to get out there I see for myself. I want to adopt a sensible approach but I’m not going all the way to Argentina for a Sunday stroll! A good first time effort seems to be breaking the top 10 so I’ll use that a guide for my expectations of what can be achieved.
