Jordy gears up for a heat at Cape Towns Coldwater Classic

Jordy Smith progressed to the next round of the Coldwater Classic with a dominant display of surfing which left his rivals trailing in his wake.

The second annual Coldwater Classic began in Marrawah on Tuesday and Smith was the big draw.

Last year’s winner of the Tasmanian leg, Jordy was back to defend his title. The 22-year-old, surfing in Heat One of the Round of 96, finished first with a score of 17.17

Smith is in tremendous form, having recently defeated surfing great Kelly Slater, and it would have been a tall order for whoever had to face the South African.

That unfortunate task fell to Tasmanian Ben Richardson!

Richardson, who was one of two local wildcard seeds to gain entry to the classic, impressed in the Round of 144, winning his first heat, but, pitted against Smith in the following round, had to concede defeat.

Brazilian Wiggolly Dantas is due in the water in Heat 21 as the Coldwater Classic hots up.
