In her first blog from Norway, Karina tells us that the atmosphere in Innfjorden is good today, even if the weather isn’t… yet

Hi all!

I’ve just made it up here, and as I arrived on the plane, the weather was as lovely and sunny as you’d expect for the summertime, but then, as we got 20 or 30km from Innfjorden, in came the fog and rain, and we couldn’t see anything!

Obviously, these aren’t great conditions for BASE jumping. Yesterday’s schedule was also affected by the weather, and so it is today. We’re having a meeting at 2pm to discuss the conditions, and hopefully we’ll be able to send the jumpers up for 3.30pm. There is a tent at the jump site, so a little rain is OK, but it is quite depressing for the athletes, having to hike up in the rain!

As you’ll know if you’ve followed my story, I won’t be jumping here. Unbelievably, it’s three years next week since my big accident, but this year has been good for me. I have had my first hike in the mountains and have been mountain biking, and feel better than I have done for three years. It’s great to feel ‘normal’ again.

Even though I’m not competing, I’m psyched to be up here. There’s a good group of people and lots of familiar faces, and there’s a great atmosphere, despite the weather.

I’m optimistic about the event, as there’s a great crew doing a really professional job organising everything. It should all go very well – if the weather decides to co-operate.

I will let you know what happens!
