Red Bull athletes Kaya Turski and Grete Eliassen have started Winter X Games 14 in Aspen, Colorado by taking gold and bronze respectively in the women's slopestyle skiing competition.

Turski settled any lingering pre-competition nerves with a near-flawless first run which she gradually improved upon.

Indeed, her third and final attempt, which included a 270, 540, a switch 900 and a switch 720 off the 68-foot “Money Booter”, earned her an unbeatable score of 96.66.

And that run saw the 21-year-old from Montreal finish 11.66 points clear of her closest rival Keri Herman while Eliassen had to settle for third place and the bronze medal, a further 0.67 points off the pace.

Turski, who lost a ski in the inaugrual race 12 months ago as she finished third, said: “Last year didn't go well. It was a medal, but it was somewhat disappointing... This time I can't even explain what this means. I have been working for this my entire life. To win X Games is a dream come true.”

Meanwhile, Eliassen, who took the silver medal last year, reflected: “It doesn't put pressure on you, it pumps you up,. You even try harder.”
