Partying until the early morning hours, that’s what it is all about when you’re out for a night at a Red Bull Thre3Style contest. The DJ event is set to take the art of spinning to the next level. The guys rocking the turntables will not only have to show off their technical skills to pay the bills, they have to also prove they can make the house go wild!
What began in Canada three years ago is now for the first time going to be an international competition an event taking place in ten countries around the world with the final going down at the end of the year in one of Europe’s most notorious party cities, Paris, France.
The rules of Red Bull Thre3Style ensure that the competition is a perfect marriage of technical DJing and party rocking prowess. Participants have to play a selection of at least three genres or styles of music in 15 minutes. It doesn't matter what genres of music are chosen as long as the DJ can make them work together. The winner is judged on their track-selection, technical skills, creativity and most importantly their ability to bring the house down. In other words, the final call is with the crowd, the more they cheer and party with their DJ of choice the better his chances are of being crowned the Red Bull Thre3Style champion. As DJ Skratch Bastid, former participant from Canada, says: “If you come up and you’re brilliantly technical but you don’t turn the party over you’re gonna get penalised as much as someone that comes up and rocks it without even really mixing the tracks.”
The competitions will be held in take place in Belguim, Brazil, Canada, Columbia, France, Japan, Spain, Switzerland, UK and the USA, making the event the most global Dj competition ever seen before. Each country will hold qualifying DJ contest and the top national DJs will again rock their records and party guests to determine who the DJ champion for that country is. The ten best from around the world will then go on to compete at the final in Paris in December 2010. The winner will be the first international Red Bull Thre3Style champion in history and they will have the crowds’ official stamp of approval that they can rock the party like nobody else.
Every battle will be judged by a panel of professional party starting DJs with much experience in the industry. And once everyone has played and the winner announced, all will get behind the decks to show the crowd just how it’s done.
