Ken Roczen took a third and a first place in the MX2 class to come out on top at the Valence Invitational motocross event last weekend, with Marvin Musquin not far behind.
Number 94 Suzuki rider Roczen rode his RM-Z250 to a podium in the first race, then pipped fellow Red Bull KTM rider Musquin, last year’s FIM MX2 world champion, to the win in race two.
Roczen, still only 15, made an impressive MX2 debut last season, finishing a creditable fifth, and this season also promises much. The young German added to his two podiums with 10th overall in the Superfinal – where both 250cc- and 450cc-class machines do battle – finishing as the third-best rider in his class in Valence, some 100km south of the French city of Lyon.
'It is good to see we are pretty competitive already' – Ken Roczen
“I am happy because I did not come here expecting to win and had also felt sick last week which meant that I could not ride much,” said Roczen afterwards. “The weather hadn’t helped us either.

“Both the bike and I are on a good level – not the level we want for Bulgaria and the first grand prix [on April 4], but we are on the way. We used this meeting for further mileage and training and it went well. It is good to see we are pretty competitive already.”
Reigning champ Musquin was 13th overall, and also declared himself satisfied.
“I had very good starts today and it was nice to win the first heat ahead of Shaun [Simpson],” Musquin said. “I raced along with Roczen in the second moto, but in the third race it was hard going competing against the bigger bikes.”
