As host and KROQ-FM DJ Casey McCabe conducted the “musical conversation” between local bands Nico Vega and Crash Kings, the two bands performed various musical tasks, both rehearsed and improvised, showcasing their musical abilities. While the more than 750 rowdy fans in attendance broke into opposing chants of “Nico Vega” and “Crash Kings” in between songs, they were untied in the fact that the event was unlike anything they had ever seen or heard before. The mob was also able to officially voice its opinion, as each round was judged by the audience, whose thunderous applause was measured by a decibel meter hung from the ceiling. In the end, Nico Vega took home the Red Bull Sound Clash trophy, narrowly edging out the Crash Kings.
