Marquez Indy GEPA Pictures/Gold & Goose

In his latest blog, Marc Márquez explains how he fell foul of a technicality in Indianapolis, but how he's looking forward to making amends at the San Marino Grand Prix at Misano.

Hi all, sorry for not writing this before, but as you’ll understand, the time change and the return trip from Indianapolis, which is a long journey, meant I was unable to.

The last grand prix was complicated, but the truth is that the overall feeling going into it was good from day one. The recovery of the shoulder was faster than expected and I came to Indianapolis in a better position than I thought I would. In addition, the team did a great job – I was very comfortable on the bike and we did some very good workouts.

On Sunday, I’m sure you saw that I made a good start and we had good pace. It was comfortable, as I said, and I wasn’t going to the limit. But then I made a mistake and hit the ground! Indianapolis is a very bumpy track, but we already knew this. Seeing that I had increased the distance ahead of Nico [Terol], maybe I relaxed a bit and I made that mistake.

'It wasn't a voluntary action and immediately I cut the gas so as not to take advantage, but…'

I could lift the bike, but the handlebars were pushed over to one side and the footrest was also bent. Still, I managed to make a good comeback, but then when I was approaching the group of [Esteve] Rabat, [Danny] Webb and [Randy] Krummenacher, I almost fell again at the second corner, and went straight on and cut off the chicane.

To save falling on my elbow, I couldn’t avoid going through this ‘loophole’, but yes, it’s true that I reduced the distance to the group, but then I eased off the gas until Turn 2 at a distance of 1.2 seconds. Only then did I catch up and overtake. As you know, after the race, they decided to penalise me 20 seconds and I lost a few valuable points…

You have to respect it and there’s no comeback – the regulation makes it clear, and as I passed, I fell foul of it. I just couldn’t do anything to keep straight at the chicane, it wasn't a voluntary action and immediately I cut the gas so as not to take advantage, but…

Now is the time to look on the bright side – we are the leaders, and feelings with the team and the bike were very good, so we have to keep working the same way for the next race [the Sammarinese GP], which is this week coming at Misano.

Greetings to all, and thank you very much for the encouraging messages you sent me after Brno and also after the race this Sunday!

Marc
