Name: Marek Dabrowki
Date of Birth: December 16, 1972
Nationality: Polish

Marek is competing this year in his 11th Dakar, despite still suffering problems with a shoulder he seriously damaged in the Por Las Pampas event in 2007, which kept him out of action for more than two years.
He is riding for the Polish outfit Team Orlen along with countrymen Jacek Czachor and Kuba Przygonski, and though he admits the pain in his shoulder might restrict him to a supporting role, he is hoping to improve on last year’s 17th place.
Fast Fact: Marek is not to be confused with fellow sporting countryman and fencing Olympian Marek Dabrowski, who won the gold medal for the team foil at the Munich Olympic Games in 1972, the year of his younger namesake’s birth.
Best quote: “My life is built around the Dakar. I've witnessed difficulties in life so it's great to be in good shape and I can say that I'm happier than before.” Marek looks on the bright side
