The New York Red Bulls are gathering a head of steam as they build toward kick off in the new MLS season next month.

The signs were encouraging all over the pitch for head coach Hans Backe with Thierry Henry and Mehdi Ballouchy getting the goals in a pre-season friendly with Fort Lauderdale Strikers and Tim Ream and Rafa Marquez developing a partnership at the heart of the defence.

Ballouchy, in particular, seems to be revelling in his role. “I think I do have a bit of freedom but I think it’s also a lot of running,” Ballouchy said. “It’s something that I’m willing to do – I enjoy it, I enjoy defending, I enjoy joining the attack. When our shape is good and our movement as well, it’s a great position.”
