Colombian BMX rider Mariana Pajon claimed three gold medals last weekend at the South American games and Pan American championship in Quito, Ecuador.
The 18-year-old followed up gold at the South American games with wins in both the elite and cruise categories at the Pan American championship. Pajon led home fellow countrywoman Andrea Zuluga who came in second at the latter event.
The good news for the 12-time world champion is that the points she won at the Pan American championship are valid for the International Cycling Association.
Pajon comes from a sporting family, and both her father and brother have represented Colombia in motorsport. The youngster first started racing BMX when she was just four years old, and has her sights firmly set on the Olympic Games in 2012.
“It’s [riding at London 2012] my dream,” she said. “I will do my best to bring home an Olympic medal.”
