24 riders from 10 nations took on a 1km course in front of 75,000 spectators, this was the Red Bull District Ride and the historical city of Nuremberg will never be the same again...

At the end of an event that saw the world's greatest freeriders pushing the envelope as far as it can go, it was the UK's Sam Pilgrim who was crowned Red Bull District Ride champ after delivering an incredible run. The British rider won first place at the final event of the Freeride Mountain Bike World Tour ahead of second-placed Swede Martin Soderstrom and third-placed Canadian Brandon Semenuk after convincing the jury with his consistently high level of tricks throughout the overall 6 Districts.

“The first time I saw the course, I couldn’t wait to just go crazy on it," said Pilgrim. "Of course, I’m really stoked I won but more importantly I had a lot of fun. Nuremberg is just a really cool city!”

At the end of the Freeride Mountain Bike World Tour, it was Canadian Brandon Semenuk who was crowned the new FMB World Tour. Champion. “This event was the highlight of the season," he said. "So many people who really created a great atmosphere and a really sick course - it was exactly my thing!”

Martin Soderstrom was obviously very happy with  his second-place ranking. He started off his second run with a 360 in the Drop District and enjoyed it completely stress-free, since his impressive first run had already secured him second place. Because of that, the Swede also tried a few tricks that were not his safest bet and really let go with various combinations on the ledges. “I am super happy with a spot in the top three, he said. "After all, the world’s best riders are here and a second place is quite an achievement in this riding field. After I really went for it in my first run, it was great to just have fun on the course without the pressure of having to collect points.”

The youngest rider in Nuremberg was by far Anthony Messere, who delivered an impressive performance. Especially the double backflip over the 50ft gap in the Best Trick Distance blew the judges away and made him an crowd favourite. In the end, he settled for 7th place. His rank at the Red Bull District Ride also secured him 4th place in the 2011 FMB World Tour just missing the podium.
