It is a Red Bull Junior debut at the Nürburgring for António Felix da Costa this weekend as he replaces Lewis Williamson in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, Races 6 and 7, June 30th and July 1st.
The 20 year old Portuguese wants to score points from the very start though he is new to the car and much more at home in the Carlin GP3 car he has been racing all season.
Born with the beautiful full name of António Maria de Mello Breyner Félix da Costa on August 31st, 1991 in Lisbon he now lives not that far away in Cascais, close to the Estoril circuit. He has already had some impressive results since first racing a single seater in 2008.
2009: 1st Formula Renault 2.0 (NEC)
2010: 7th Formula 3 Euro Series, 3 race wins
2011: 13th GP3, one race win, Monza Race 2
2012: GP3 – one podium finish so far in Monte Carlo, 2nd
Da Costa: "I'm very proud to become the 2nd Portuguese in the Red Bull Junior Team after Filipe Albuquerque. I'm also aware of the great expectations in this the world's best advancement programme, and I'm going to do everything possible to justify this trust. Of course I already know the Nürburgring from several races in my past, and it's a perfect spot for my debut as a Red Bull."
Da Costa replaces Scotsman Lewis Williamson, who has not had the success everyone expected this year in the Renault 3.5 series that is seen as a direct step into Formula One, the step that was taken in last year by Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne. It is a brutally competitive process.
