From Spielberg to Rockingham, no time to rest for Carlos Sainz jr. and the Carlin team as they head for races 9 to 11 of the British F3 Series after the Euro F3 races in Austria. This weekend, June 9th and 10th will see the Madrid native defending his championship lead, he has already won 3 races, and put yet more miles on his Dallara-Volkswagen.
He is looking for his first win in Britain as the 2 victories in Monza and one in Pau came at the 'overseas' rounds of the 'British' Cooper Tires F3 Series. "That would be great, of course, to finally be able to win on the British Isle as well for once. I know the Rockingham track from testing, and I immediately took a liking to it."
Sainz knows that he still needs to pick up some circuit knowledge on the some of the other drivers who have more Rockingham experience and he was only 6th fastest at the May 22nd test but he was quickest in the 3rd session of the day and his best time for the day of 1m 18.367s was less than a second shy of the 1m 17.578s posted by Fortec's Alex Lynn in his Mercedes powered Dallara. Two Fortec cars headed the times indicating that the advantage they have shown at some races this year has probably not been totally eradicated.
