Racing early this weekend as the pre-show for the Spa 24 hour race in Belgium, the Cooper Tires British F3 Series have rounds 18 and 19 on Friday with round 20 on Saturday July 28th. Carlos Sainz jr. is determined to fight back towards the head of the championship that he was leading early in the year.
It has been a difficult time for the 17 year old Spaniard and his Carlin Dallara Volkswagen. He was last on the podium at Rockingham with 3rd and there have been 6 races since then. Brands Hatch and the Norisring were disastrous though there was plenty of outside influence in dropping Carlos to 5th in the points, 46 behind team mate Jack Harvey.
There are still 12 races to go in the season so the fight is far from over and after Spa the circus returns to Britain for the remaining events at Snetterton, Silverstone and Donington. Spa is on of his favourite circuits though so it is here that he intends to turn things around. "I obviously can't be satisfied with the previous races and weeks. But testing ahead of the last weekend in Zandvoort went very positively, and I was already back again among the top times in the Netherlands as well.”
“Now we have to tap the potential over the course of an entire race weekend, and then victories and rostrums will come again, I'm sure of that.”
“Anyway, I'm looking forward to one of my favourite tracks. I still have good memories in other categories. I am very confident and for sure we can do a good job - try to fight for the win. A really big grid is expected so it will be important to be constant throughout all the weekend!"
