António Félix da Costa (POR - Arden Caterham) finished a good 7th in the inaugural race weekend at the Moscow Raceway on Saturday, Race 6 in the Renault 3.5 series. The event was won by Robin Frijns (NED - Fortec Motorsports).
The Portuguese Red Bull Junior had qualified 7th and started from the 4th row while the championship leader set off from pole, no doubt inspired by his Friday laps in the Formula One Red Bull Racing Renault RB6, as part of the Red Bull Racing Renault Show.
Race conditions were warm and sunny and Frijns led from the start followed by Sörensen and Bianchi. Felix da Costa improved by one position and was running 6th place. He was subsequently attacked by Korjus and Rosenzweig but was able to defend.
Up at the front a duel between Frijns and Marco Sørensen (DEN – Lotus) developed and both pulled away from their pursuers while Felix da Costa was unable to keep pace with the top 5.
After 20 off the 44 minutes plus 1 lap Félix da Costa was well adrift of the leaders but still defending 6th. Sörensen continued to put constant pressure on the leader but the Dutchman fended off all chalenges.
On the 18th lap Sörensen then tried a pass at the end of the long straight but spun off the track while doing so. The Dane regained the circuit in 5th. Afterwards the safety car had to take to the track following several mid-pack collisions, and the field closed back up again.
That did not help Félix da Costa who was passed by Kevin Korjus (EST - Tech 1 Racing) just before the flag and hence finished 7th.
